Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a popular game that lets you live a virtual life on a deserted island. In the game, you will need a shovel to dig up fossils, to plant trees, and even to help you complete some quests. In this article, we will guide you on how to obtain a shovel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Obtaining Your First Shovel

To get your first shovel, you must progress through the main storyline of the game. After you have set up your island and invited a few animals to become your residents, Tom Nook will inform you that Blathers, the museum curator, wants to set up a museum on your island. You must then bring him some bug and fish specimens to get the museum set up.

When you have donated five bugs and five fish to Blathers, you will receive a call on your Nook Phone from Tom Nook, asking you to come to the Resident Services building. Once you arrive, Tom Nook will inform you that he has a present for you. This present is your first set of DIY tools, which includes a flimsy shovel.

Crafting a Better Shovel

The flimsy shovel that Tom Nook gives you is not very durable, and you will need to craft a more durable one by using better materials. To craft a better shovel, you will need an iron nugget and a flimsy shovel.

To get an iron nugget, you will need to hit a rock repeatedly with a flimsy axe or shovel. You can do this once per day with up to five rocks. However, the rocks respawn after a day or two.

Once you have an iron nugget, take it to your DIY bench and select “craft” from the menu. Then, select the flimsy shovel from the list of items you can craft and add the iron nugget to the crafting ingredients. This will give you a shovel that has a higher durability rating and will last longer.

In Conclusion

Obtaining a shovel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is essential to your progress through the game. By following the simple steps outlined in this article, you can craft a shovel and be well on your way to digging up fossils, planting trees, and completing quests. Just remember to keep hitting those rocks to get the iron nuggets you need to keep crafting better tools!
