If you’re a gamer, you’re likely familiar with the Microsoft Gaming Overlay. This app is used for streaming gameplay, sharing screenshots and videos, and communicating with fellow gamers. But sometimes, you may encounter an error message that says “You’ll need a new app to open this ms-gamingoverlay” when trying to open the app.

This error can be frustrating, but fortunately, it’s usually easy to fix. Here are some tips for resolving the “You’ll Need a New App to Open This Ms-Gamingoverlay” error on Windows:

  1. Check for updates

Sometimes, the error may occur if your version of the gaming overlay app is outdated. To fix this, check for updates by following these steps:

– Open the Microsoft Store app on your computer

– Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select “Downloads and updates”

– Click “Get updates” and wait for the updates to install

After the updates are installed, try opening the gaming overlay app again to see if the error has been resolved.

  1. Check your system for malware

Sometimes, malware can cause errors with apps on your computer. To check for and remove any potential malware, follow these steps:

– Open the Start menu and type “Windows Security” in the search bar

– Click on “Windows Security” and then click “Virus & threat protection”

– Click “Quick scan” to scan your system for malware

If any malware is found, follow the steps provided by Windows Security to remove it. After removing any malware, try opening the gaming overlay app again to see if the error has been resolved.

  1. Reset the gaming overlay app

Resetting the gaming overlay app can sometimes fix any issues that are causing the error to occur. To do this, follow these steps:

– Open the Settings app on your computer

– Click on “Apps”

– Scroll down and find the gaming overlay app, then click on it

– Click “Advanced options”

– Scroll down and click “Reset”

After resetting the app, try opening it again to see if the error has been resolved.

  1. Reinstall the app

If none of the above solutions work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the gaming overlay app. To do this, follow these steps:

– Open the Settings app on your computer

– Click on “Apps”

– Scroll down and find the gaming overlay app, then click on it

– Click “Uninstall”

– Go to the Microsoft Store app and search for the gaming overlay app

– Click “Install” to reinstall the app

After reinstalling the app, try opening it again to see if the error has been resolved.
