Spread the love

Minecraft is a popular sandbox video game, especially among gamers who love to generate or explore virtual worlds. However, it is not uncommon to encounter errors while playing Minecraft. One of the common errors that affect Minecraft on Windows is the Minecraft OpenGL error. OpenGL is an open-source graphics library that provides graphic rendering on different platforms. If you encounter the OpenGL error, it means that the graphics card or driver cannot handle the game’s graphics.

1) Check your computer specifications

To ensure that your computer can handle Minecraft’s graphics, check your computer’s specifications. Verify that your computer has the minimum requirements recommended by Minecraft. If your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for the game, it could be the reason for the OpenGL error.

2) Update your graphics driver

If your graphics driver is outdated, it may not support Minecraft’s graphics. Updating the graphics driver is vital in fixing the OpenGL error. To update your graphics driver, follow the steps below:

– Press ‘Windows Key’ + ‘R.’ This will open the Run dialog box.

– Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ and press Enter. This will open the Device Manager.

– Click on ‘Display adapters’ to expand it.

– Right-click on your graphics card and select ‘Update Driver.’

– Follow the prompts to install the updated driver.

3) Check for Windows updates

Microsoft regularly releases updates to fix bugs and improve the performance of its operating system. If you have not updated your Windows in a while, you may encounter the OpenGL error while playing Minecraft. Ensure that you have installed all the available Windows updates.

– Click on the ‘Start button or press the Windows key.

– Type ‘Windows Update’ in the search box.

– Click on ‘Check for Updates.’

– Install all the available updates.

4) Change Minecraft graphic settings

Changing the graphic settings in Minecraft can help fix the OpenGL error. Follow the steps below:

– Start Minecraft and click on ‘Options.’

– Click on ‘Video Settings.’

– Change the graphics from ‘Fancy’ to ‘Fast’ or ‘Fastest.’

– Save the settings and restart Minecraft.

5) Reinstall Minecraft

If the OpenGL error still persists, reinstalling Minecraft could be the solution. Here are the steps to follow:

– Open the Control Panel.

– Click on ‘Programs and Features.’

– Locate Minecraft and right-click on it.

– Select ‘Uninstall’ and follow the prompts to uninstall Minecraft.

– Download and install the latest version of Minecraft from the official site.

6) Run Minecraft in compatibility mode

In some cases, running Minecraft in compatibility mode can fix the OpenGL error. Here are the steps to follow:

– Right-click on the Minecraft shortcut or launcher.

– Click on ‘Properties.’

– Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab.

– Check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for.’

– Choose an earlier version of Windows from the drop-down menu.

– Save the settings and start Minecraft.
