How to Fix the Greyed-Out Remove PIN Option in Windows 11

If you’ve recently upgraded to Windows 11, you might have noticed that the option to remove your PIN has been greyed-out. This can be frustrating, especially if you no longer want to use a PIN to sign in to your device. Fortunately, there are a few simple solutions that you can try to fix this issue.
1.Sign in with your Microsoft account:
One of the possible reasons for the greyed-out option is that you’re signed in to your device with a local account instead of your Microsoft account. To fix this, sign out of your local account and sign in using your Microsoft account.
To do this, go to Settings > Accounts > Your info > Sign in with a Microsoft account instead. Once you’ve entered your Microsoft account credentials, you should be able to remove your PIN from the Sign-in options menu.
2.Check if the Group Policy is blocking the option:
Another reason why you might not be able to remove your PIN is that a local Group Policy is blocking the option. If this is the case, you’ll need to enable the “Allow users to remove the PIN” policy setting.
To do this, press the Windows key + R and type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog box. Next, navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Biometrics, and then click on “Allow users to remove the PIN.”
Set the policy to “Enabled,” and then close the Group Policy Editor. Now, you should be able to remove your PIN from the Sign-in options menu.
3.Use Command Prompt:
If the above solutions don’t work, you can try using Command Prompt to remove your PIN. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open Command Prompt as an administrator by clicking on the Start menu and searching for “cmd.” Right-click on Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator.”
Step 2: Type the following command and press Enter: net user [user name] *
(Note: replace [user name] with your user account name)
Step 3: Enter your current account password, and then press Enter.
Step 4: When prompted to set a new password, simply press Enter. This will remove your PIN and any password for your account.
