If you’re an avid gamer on Windows PC, you probably know that Epic Games Launcher is one of the most popular game launchers to download games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and others. However, many users have encountered issues with the launcher’s high CPU usage, which can significantly impact the performance of your computer. Here’s how you can fix the Epic Games Launcher’s high CPU usage on your Windows PC.

1. Update the Epic Games Launcher

One of the primary reasons for high CPU usage and other issues with the Epic Games Launcher, is outdated software. Make sure you have the latest version installed on your PC by checking the Epic Games website. To update the software, click on the Launcher options located in the top-right of the launcher and select “Check for Updates.”

2. Disable Auto-Update

If you have several Epic Games Launcher updates pending, it may run multiple update threads and consume most of your CPU resources due to high disk usage. To work around this, you can disable auto-update in the Launcher settings by navigating to the “Options” menu and selecting “Settings.” Then, under the “General” tab, disable the “Auto-Update” option.

3. Disable Background Running Apps

The Epic Games Launcher runs several background services that can consume a significant amount of CPU usage. Some of these background services include Epic Online Services, EpicGamesLauncherNotifier.exe, and UnrealCEFSubProcess.exe.

You can disable these apps by accessing the Startup tab in the Task Manager. Right-click on the taskbar, click on “Task Manager,” select the “Startup” tab, and disable Epic Games Launcher’s sub-tasks by selecting “Disable.”

4. Disable Overlays

Overlays are a common feature in gaming applications, but they can sometimes impact CPU performance. The Epic Games Launcher also has an overlay feature that can be disabled to prevent high CPU usage. Go to the Launcher options, select “Settings,” and under the “Social” tab, disable the “Enable In-Game Overlay” option.

5. Run As Administrator

If you encounter this issue regularly, it may be a good idea to run the Epic Games Launcher as an Administrator. Doing this can prevent any restrictions on the system resources needed by the launcher. To run the launcher as an administrator, right-click on the Epic Games icon and select “Run as Administrator.”

In conclusion, these are the five effective ways to fix the Epic Games Launcher’s high CPU usage on your Windows PC. It’s essential to keep your PC’s performance in check now and then, especially if you’re a passionate gamer or content creator. With these tips, you’ll ensure a smooth gaming experience with no hiccups.
