Chromebooks are great for their simplicity yet powerful features. Recently, however, a lot of Chromebook users have been reporting the issue of the touchpad not working. If you are facing the same problem, don’t worry. There are numerous solutions to fix the problem. Here are a few tips on how to fix it when your Chromebook touchpad is not working.

1. Restart your Chromebook

One of the easiest and quick solutions to fix the touchpad not working issue is to restart your Chromebook. To restart your Chromebook, click on the power button and select the restart option. Wait for your device to restart and see if the touchpad is working.

2. Update Chromebook

Often, the touchpad not working issue may arise due to an outdated Chromebook. Try updating your device and check if the touchpad is working fine. To update your Chromebook, follow the below steps:

– Click on the settings icon on your Chromebook.

– Scroll down to the “about Chrome OS” option.

– Select the “check for updates” option.

– If there are any updates, click on the “restart to update” option.

Wait for your device to update and then check if your touchpad is working.

3. Check the touchpad setting

If the touchpad is still not working, check the touchpad settings on your Chromebook. Here’s how:

– Click on the settings icon on your Chromebook.

– Look for the “devices” option and click on it.

– Select the “touchpad” option.

– Verify that your touchpad is enabled and that it is set to the normal touchpad sensitivity.

4. Disable the touchscreen

If your Chromebook touchscreen is also not responding, try disabling the touchscreen and check if the touchpad is working. Here’s how you can disable the touchscreen:

– Click on the settings icon on your Chromebook.

– Navigate to the “device” option and click on it.

– Click on the “displays” option.

– Look for the “touchscreen” option and click on it.

– Turn off the touchscreen option.

5. Powerwash your Chromebook

If the above steps do not fix the touchpad issue, you may need to powerwash your device. Powerwashing will remove all the data and settings from your Chromebook and will take it back to its factory settings. This process will wipe all the data, so make sure you backup any important files. To perform a powerwash:

– Click on the settings icon on your Chromebook.

– Scroll down to the “advanced” option and click on it.

– Click on the “powerwash” option.

– Follow the onscreen instructions to reset your device.

6. Contact support

If none of the above steps work, you may want to try contacting the Chromebook support team. They may have additional solutions or may need to repair or replace your device.

In conclusion, the above tips should help you to fix the touchpad not working issue on your Chromebook. It’s essential to keep your device updated and check the touchpad settings regularly to avoid such issues. Stay tech-savvy and keep exploring.
