When it comes to hair dye, the options are endless: there are tons of chemical products on the shelves, and professional stylists ready to help you achieve that perfect look. But what if you’re looking for a fun, temporary, and budget-friendly solution for adding a pop of color to your locks? Jell-O might just be the answer!

In this article, we will guide you on how to dye your hair using Jell-O for a vibrant and fun transformation.

What You’ll Need:

– A packet of Jell-O (choose the color you want for your hair)

– A mixing bowl

– Water

– Hair conditioner

– Gloves

– An old T-shirt or towel

– A shower cap or plastic wrap

– Hairbrush

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Make sure you wear an old T-shirt or drape an old towel over your shoulders to protect your clothes from staining. It’s also essential to have gloves on hand, as Jell-O can temporarily stain your skin.

Step 2: Brush Your Hair

Brush through your hair to remove any knots or tangles. This will make the dye application smoother and more even.

Step 3: Create the Jell-O Mixture

Empty the Jell-O packet into a mixing bowl. Slowly add boiling water to the powder while stirring continuously. Add enough water until the mixture reaches a thick yet pourable consistency. Allow it to cool until it’s safe to touch.

Step 4: Add Conditioner

Mix in some hair conditioner into the cooled Jell-O mixture. The conditioner helps make the coloring easier to apply and makes your hair feel smoother after washing it out.

Step 5: Apply the Mixture

Put on your gloves and start applying the colored mixture onto your hair. Be thorough with this step; ensure every strand is coated to achieve an even color. You can concentrate on specific sections for highlights or cover your entire head for an all-over color.

Step 6: Wrap Your Hair

Once your hair is coated, wrap it in a shower cap or plastic wrap. This will keep the Jell-O mixture from drying out and prevent it from dripping onto other surfaces.

Step 7: Wait and Rinse

Let the mixture sit in your hair for at least an hour, the longer you wait, the more vibrant the color will be. Afterward, rinse your hair with cold water to remove any excess dye. Don’t shampoo your hair immediately afterward, as this might strip away too much of the color.

And voila! You’ve successfully dyed your hair with Jell-O. Enjoy your fun and temporary new hairdo!

Keep in mind that Jell-O will provide a semi-permanent color that should last a few days to a week, depending on how often you wash your hair. Feel free to experiment with different colors and have fun with this unique method of temporary hair coloring.
