How to Draw Harry Potter: 9 Steps

If you’re a fan of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you might want to learn how to draw the famous protagonist himself. Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to draw your very own Harry Potter.

Step 1: Outline the head

Start by drawing a circle for the head. You can use a compass or any circular object as a guide. Add guidelines inside this circle to represent the center of the face and eye line. Draw another small, curved line below the circle for his chin.

Step 2: Sketch the facial features

Using your guidelines, draw two almond-shaped eyes within the eye line. Add eyebrows above them, making sure they are slightly raised at both ends to give a curious expression. Next, draw Harry’s small, round glasses around each eye without touching the eyes themselves.

Step 3: Nose and mouth

Beneath the eye line, draw a small, upturned nose and add some light shading at its sides for depth. Then sketch a simple curved line for his smile and two smaller lines on either side to represent dimples.

Step 4: Add Harry’s scar

Above his right eyebrow, towards the end of it, draw a zig-zag scar in the shape of a lightning bolt.

Step 5: Draw his hair

First, draw a side parting starting from near the top of his head going down just above his left eyebrow. Create messy strands of hair falling on either side of the parting and over his ears. To finalize his hairstyle, draw longer hair at the back that covers parts of his neck.

Step 6: Sketch ears and neck

Add half-oval shapes on both sides of the head where his glasses end to represent ears. After that, draw two lines right under the chin that widen towards their bottom for the neck.

Step 7: Clothing

From the end of the neck, draw the curve of his shoulders and sketch a simple shirt collar. Draw two crisscrossed lines below the collar for his tie, then add his Hogwarts’ House symbols on it. Finally, trace lines to indicate the folds of his shirt.

Step 8: Add details

Finish up your drawing by adding small touches such as shadows under the hair or on Harry’s clothes to add depth. You can also emphasize facial features with delicate shading.

Step 9: Color your drawing

Now that you have your sketch complete, bring life to your drawing by adding color. Follow Harry Potter’s classic depiction – black hair, green eyes, and Gryffindor colors for his tie.

With these nine steps, you’re now able to create a fantastic drawing of Harry Potter. Practice makes perfect, so keep working on your artistic skills and impress your fellow Potterheads with this magical portrait!
