How to Draw a Lighthouse: 7 Steps
A lighthouse is an iconic symbol of guidance and shelter, typically found along coastlines. With its distinct structure, drawing a lighthouse can be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. If you’re looking to learn how to draw a lighthouse, simply follow these seven steps!
1. Draw the outline: Start by sketching the basic structure of the lighthouse. Draw a long, vertical rectangular shape for the tower’s base and build upon it with a narrower rectangle for the tower’s body. For the top, create a circular platform by drawing an oval shape.
2. Add windows and doors: On the tower’s body, add evenly spaced rectangular windows to give your drawing some depth. At the base of your tower, sketch a door complete with an archway and small staircase leading up to it.
3. Create details on the platform: On top of the platform you sketched earlier, add crisscrossed railings which will encircle the upper portion of your lighthouse. Create more depth and realism by adding conical or pyramidal support structures beneath the railings.
4. Draw the lantern room: Above the platform, draw another smaller rectangle along with semi-circles on each corner to form the lantern room’s base. Insert additional vertical lines between these semi-circles for extra support detail.
5. Add lantern room details: On each side of the lantern room, sketch pentagonal-shaped windows that allow light emitted from within to escape outward, guiding ships at sea. Then draw a small cylinder on top of this space as your lantern room’s roof.
6. Sketch in some shading and contours: Add shading underneath the railings and in various parts of your lighthouse-like doorways and window frames to create depth and dimensionality. Use soft lines along one side of your lighthouse to suggest light and shadow interactions.
7. Finalize your drawing with a background: To make your lighthouse stand out, sketch in a coastline or ocean background along with features such as rocks, foliage, and waves. Feel free to experiment with different techniques to make your scenery unique!
With these seven steps, you should now have a lovely drawing of a lighthouse. Remember, practicing your drawings and experimenting with different styles will only help you get better over time. Enjoy illustrating this iconic structure while exploring your artistic talents!
