How to Draw a Cute Cartoon Cat: 8 Steps
Step 1: Sketch a circle
Begin by sketching a circle that will serve as the cat’s head. This will help establish the size and proportions of your cute cartoon cat.
Step 2: Draw guidelines
Next, draw intersecting lines in the center of the circle. These lines will serve as guides for placing the facial features of the cat. Keep them light so they can be easily erased later.
Step 3: Add ears and body
Draw two triangle shapes on top of the circle to create the ears. Then, add an oval shape below the circle for the body. This shape should be slightly larger than the head circle, and its height should be about 1.5 times its width.
Step 4: Draw legs and tail
For each leg, draw two parallel lines, which taper towards the paws. Add small ovals for the paws. The front legs should be shorter than the hind legs. For extra cuteness, make the hind legs thicker than the front legs. Lastly, draw a long, curved line behind the body for the tail.
Step 5: Create facial features
Add two large oval eyes on either side of the intersecting lines drawn in step 2. Place a small dot or an upside-down “U” shape inside each eye for pupils. Draw a small upside-down triangle just below the point where your guidelines intersect to create a little nose. Lastly, sketch three whiskers sticking out diagonally from each side of/nose.
Step 6: Add details
Draw tufts of fur on both sides of your cat’s head by adding short curved lines near its ears. Optionally, you may also include collar or other accessories such as a bow tie or scarf around its neck.
Step 7: Erase guidelines and refine lines
Carefully erase all your preliminary guidelines, leaving only the finished outline of your cat. Go over any faint or shaky lines with your pencil to define and smooth their appearance.
Step 8: Color your cute cartoon cat
Finally, add colors to your drawing. You can experiment with various colors and patterns, such as adding spots or stripes to your cat’s fur. Don’t forget to color its eyes, nose, and any accessories.
Congratulations! You have just drawn a cute cartoon cat in eight simple steps. Practice and experiment with different shapes, sizes, and positions to create a whole collection of endearing cartoon kitties.
