When it comes to drawing, people often gravitate towards objects with symbolic significance. A cross is one such symbol that carries great meaning for many people around the world. Follow these 12 steps to learn how to draw a simple yet elegant cross.

1. Collect your tools: Have a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, and paper ready.

2. Draw a vertical line: Using your ruler, draw a straight vertical line at the center of your paper. This will be the longer part of the cross.

3. Draw a horizontal line: Measure approximately one-third down from the top of the vertical line and draw a horizontal line crossing it at a right angle. This will be the shorter part of the cross.

4. Determine the width: Decide on the desired width of your cross. For this tutorial, we’ll use 1 inch as our width.

5. Extend outward lines: Starting from the intersection point of the two lines, extend an equal distance on both sides along the horizontal line (in our example, half an inch on each side).

6. Complete the horizontal beam: Create parallel lines extending out from the initial horizontal line with your desired width (in our case, 1 inch). Connect these parallel lines with short vertical lines on each end.

7. Extend downward lines: Starting from the intersection point of the two initial lines, extend an equal distance upwards and downwards along the vertical line (in our example, half an inch each).

8. Complete the vertical beam: Create parallel lines extending from this initial vertical line with your desired width (again, 1 inch in our case). Connect these parallel lines with short horizontal lines on each end.

9. Erase guidelines: Carefully erase any parts of your original intersection-guiding horizontal and vertical lines that are sticking out beyond your cross shape.

10. Refine your cross edges: Clean up your lines and edges, making sure they are smooth and even.

11. Add shading (optional): To give your cross a three-dimensional appearance, you can add shading to its sides. Decide on a light source and add shadows accordingly.

12. Sign your artwork: When you’re satisfied with your drawing, sign and date it to make it truly yours.
And there you have it – a simple yet elegantly drawn cross in just 12 steps! With practice, you’ll be able to create crosses of various sizes and styles, each carrying their unique meaning and sentiment.
