Steam is an online game distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation. It offers a vast collection of games to play, and you can even purchase games at a discounted rate. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to download and install Steam on Linux.

Step 1: Check whether your system is compatible with Steam

The first thing you need to consider is whether your system is compatible with Steam or not. Steam supports Linux systems, but you need a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor to run it. Also, your system should have a graphics driver installed that supports OpenGL 3.0 or higher.

Step 2: Download and Install Steam

The next step is to download and install Steam on your Linux system. You can download the Steam client package from the official Steam website.

1. Open the Terminal on your Linux system.

2. Type the following command and press Enter to download the Steam client package:

wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb

3. Once the download is complete, type the following command and press Enter to install the Steam client package:

sudo dpkg -i steam.deb

4. If the installation prompts for authentication, enter your system password and press Enter.

5. Once the installation is complete, launch the Steam client by typing the following command and pressing Enter:

steam

Step 3: Login and start downloading games

After the installation is complete, you need to log in to your Steam account to start downloading games. If you don’t have an account, you can create one for free on the official Steam website.

1. Launch the Steam client by typing the following command in the Terminal and pressing Enter:
Steam

2. Enter your Steam account credentials and click on Login.

3. Once you are logged in, you can browse and purchase games from the Steam library.

Conclusion

In this article, we’ve explained the steps to download and install Steam on Linux. Steam offers a vast collection of games for Linux users, and you can even purchase games at a discounted rate. Once you’ve installed Steam, you can enjoy a wide range of games on your Linux system.
