How to Do a Pull-Through Braid: 14 Steps

The pull-through braid is a stylish and modern twist on the classic braid that adds volume and drama to your hair. With a few practice sessions, you’ll be able to create this beautiful and versatile hairstyle in no time. Just follow these 14 easy steps:
1. Gather your supplies: You will need a comb, several small hair elastics, and a hair clip.
2. Start with clean, dry hair: Brushes your hair well to remove any tangles and knots.
3. Section off the top portion: Using the comb, create a horizontal part from ear to ear and secure the front section with an elastic band to create a small ponytail at the crown of your head.
4. Form a new section: Below the first ponytail, create another horizontal part across your head and secure this section with an elastic band as well.
5. Create loops: Divide the top ponytail into two equal sections, placing one in each hand.
6. Bring the lower ponytail through: Pull the bottom ponytail up between the two sections of the top ponytail and clip it out of the way for now.
7. Create another section: Release the bottom ponytail from the clip and secure it with an elastic band at the same level as your previous sections, incorporating more hair from both sides of your head.
8. Repeat steps 5-7: Continue dividing, looping, and securing new sections down the back of your head until you reach the nape of your neck.
9. Begin braiding along the sides: At this point, you will continue creating sections by incorporating hair from either side of your head instead of down your neck.
10. When reaching to last two inches: Create one final loop by dividing your current bottom ponytail into two sections and pulling it through before securing it with another band.
11. Pancake the braid: Starting at the top, gently tug at the edges of each loop in your pull-through braid to create more volume and a fuller appearance.
12. Optionally, you can nestle the end of your pull-through braid against the back of your head by curling it up and securing it with a few bobby pins, creating an updo look.
13. Finish and secure: Spray your completed pull-through braid with a light hold hairspray to keep it in place throughout the day.
14. Admire your work: You’ve successfully created a stunning pull-through braid!
With practice and patience, you’ll soon be able to create this beautiful hairstyle in minutes, making it an excellent addition to your styling repertoire. Whether for a special event or everyday wear, the pull-through braid is sure to turn heads.
