Introduction

Lexicomp is an essential resource for healthcare professionals, providing access to current and reliable drug and clinical information. As a go-to database for information about medications, it is crucial to appropriately cite Lexicomp when using it as a reference in your academic work or professional projects. Here, we will discuss five different ways to properly cite Lexicomp in various citation styles – APA, MLA, Chicago, AMA, and NLM.

1. APA (American Psychological Association) Style

To cite Lexicomp in APA format, follow this general formula:

Lexicomp. (Publication Year). Drug name: dosage & administration. In Lexi-Drugs Online. Retrieved [Date of access] from URL.

Example:

Lexicomp. (2022). Aspirin: dosage & administration. In Lexi-Drugs Online. Retrieved February 6, 2022 from https://online.lexi.com.

2. MLA (Modern Language Association) Style

For citations in the MLA style, use the following structure:

“Drug Name: Dosage & Administration.” Lexi-Drugs Online, Wolters Kluwer, Year of publication, URL. Accessed Day Month Year.

Example:

“Aspirin: Dosage & Administration.” Lexi-Drugs Online, Wolters Kluwer, 2022, https://online.lexi.com. Accessed 6 Feb 2022.

3. Chicago/Turabian Style

In the Chicago/Turabian citation style, follow this format:

Lexicomp. “Drug Name: Dosage & Administration.” In Lexi-Drugs Online. Wolters Kluwer Health, Publication Year. URL.

Example:

Lexicomp. “Aspirin: Dosage & Administration.” In Lexi-Drugs Online. Wolters Kluwer Health, 2022. https://online.lexi.com.

4. AMA (American Medical Association) Style

For citations in the AMA style, use the template below:

Lexicomp Online. Drug Name: Dosage & administration. Lexi-Drugs database. Lexicomp. Accessed [Date of access]. URL.

Example:

Lexicomp Online. Aspirin: Dosage & administration. Lexi-Drugs database. Lexicomp. Accessed February 6, 2022. https://online.lexi.com.

5. NLM (National Library of Medicine) Style

When using the NLM citation style, follow this format:

Drug name: dosage & administration [Internet]. In Lexi-Drugs Online. Hudson (OH): Wolters Kluwer, publication year; [Date of access]; [Cited Year Month Day]. Available from: URL.

Example:

Aspirin: dosage & administration [Internet]. In Lexi-Drugs Online. Hudson (OH): Wolters Kluwer, 2022; 2022 Feb 6; [cited 2022 Feb 6]. Available from: https://online.lexi.com.

Conclusion

Regardless of the citation style you choose or are required to use, it is crucial to acknowledge sources like Lexicomp accurately and consistently when writing or conducting research. By correctly citing information from this essential database, you demonstrate professional integrity and respect for intellectual property in science, medicine, and academia.

Please note that citation formats may be updated periodically; always consult official guidelines for the most recent information on a particular citation style’s requirements before using these examples as exact templates.
