How to Do a Keg Stand: 12 Steps
A keg stand is a popular party trick that involves drinking directly from a beer keg while doing a handstand on it. Although it’s a fun spectacle, it requires practice and some skill to pull off safely. Here are 12 steps to do a keg stand correctly:
1. Choose the right spot: Make sure there is enough space around the keg for you to do the handstand and for your friends to support you.
2. Get help from friends: Doing a keg stand alone is dangerous, so make sure you have at least two friends nearby to help you. One should be responsible for holding the tap and managing the flow of beer, while another should be available to hold your legs up.
3. Warm-up: Since keg stands require some upper body strength, warm up your arms with some push-ups and stretches before attempting the stand.
4. Place hands on the keg: Squat down next to the keg and place both hands evenly spaced on top of it. Ensure your palms are flat down, and fingers facing forwards.
5. Kick up into a handstand: While keeping your hands firmly on the keg, kick up one leg followed by the other, bringing them together straight above your head.
6. Friends hold your legs: Once you’re in position, one friend should securely hold each ankle to provide stability as you maintain your balance.
7. Inhale deeply: Take a deep breath to prepare yourself for consuming alcohol while upside down.
8. Align with the tap: Have someone help line up your mouth with the tap so you can begin drinking directly from it. This person will also control turning the tap on and off throughout this process.
9. Start drinking: With everything in place, open your mouth and begin drinking as your friend opens up the tap.
10. Pace yourself: Don’t feel pressured to chug beer rapidly – drink at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
11. Signal when you’re finished: When you’ve had enough, give a clear signal to your friends so they can turn off the tap, and you can stop drinking.
12. Coming down: After the tap is off, slowly lower your legs back to the ground with your friends’ assistance. Release your hands from the keg gradually, taking care not to fall over or lose balance.
Remember, a keg stand is an entertaining party trick but should only be attempted if you feel comfortable and have practiced before. Always prioritize safety and keep an eye on one another throughout the process. And, of course, consume alcohol responsibly.
