Working remotely and need to send a CTRL + ALT + DEL command to a remote desktop? It’s not as straightforward as doing it on your local computer, but don’t worry, it’s still quite simple.

When you’re in a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), your local keyboard’s commands are directed to your own computer, not the remote one you’re connected to. This is why pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL does not work by default.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Press “CTRL + ALT + END” Instead: When using Remote Desktop, press the “END” key while holding down “CTRL” and “ALT” together. This sends the CTRL + ALT + DEL command to the remote computer.

2. Use the On-Screen Keyboard: Open the on-screen keyboard on the remote desktop. You can do this by clicking on the Start button, selecting ‘Windows Ease of Access’ > ‘On-Screen Keyboard’. Once it’s open, click ‘Ctrl’ + ‘Alt’ on the on-screen keyboard, and then delete with your physical keyboard.

3. If you want a solution that works without involving your physical keyboard:

– Go to the Start Menu and start typing “On-Screen Keyboard.”

– Then, select and launch the On-Screen Keyboard when it comes up in the search results.

– With the on-screen keyboard open, move your mouse and select the Ctrl and Alt keys.

– While these are selected, hit the Del button on your physical keyboard or click Del on the on-screen one.

4. Adjust Remote Desktop Settings: Some remote desktop clients have settings allowing you to send special command sequences. For instance, Microsoft’s RDC has an option under ‘Local Resources’ for sending keyboard shortcuts such as CTRL+ALT+DEL directly to the remote PC.
