How to Cook an Omelette: 8 Steps

1. Gather your ingredients: To cook an omelette, you will need eggs, salt, pepper, a non-stick frying pan, a spatula, a whisk or fork, and your choice of fillings such as cheese, vegetables or cooked meats.
2. Prepare the fillings: Before starting with the eggs, chop and cook any vegetables, meats or other fillings you’d like to include in your omelette. It is essential to cook them in advance since they won’t have time to cook thoroughly once added to the eggs.
3. Whisk the eggs: In a medium-sized bowl, crack the eggs and beat them until the yolks and whites have fully combined. Season the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
4. Heat the frying pan: Place a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and let it warm up for a minute or two. Once heated, add a small amount of oil or butter to coat the bottom of the pan evenly.
5. Pour in the egg mixture: Gently pour the whisked eggs into the frying pan, ensuring an even layer across the pan’s surface. Let it cook for about 30 seconds to a minute without stirring so that it starts to set.
6. Add fillings and fold: As the omelette starts to set around the edges but is still slightly runny in the center, sprinkle your prepared fillings on one side of the omelette. Carefully fold over the other half using a spatula to cover your fillings.
7. Cook till it’s done: Allow the omelette to finish cooking for another minute or two while taking care not to overcook it. The ideal consistency should be creamy and slightly moist on the inside while fully cooked on the outside.
8. Serve immediately: Once your omelette has reached the desired consistency, gently slide it onto a plate. You can garnish with fresh herbs, hot sauce or sour cream as desired. Enjoy your delicious omelette!
