HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a newer image format used by Apple devices, offering better compression and quality compared to traditional JPGs. However, many platforms and programs still don’t support HEIC, making it necessary to convert them to JPG. Thankfully, converting HEIC to JPG on a Mac is a breeze.

Here’s how:

1. Preview: The simplest method involves Apple’s built-in Preview app. Open the HEIC image in Preview, then go to File > Export. Select “JPEG” as the file format and choose your desired quality settings. Click “Save” and your image is ready to use.

2. Automator: For bulk conversions, utilize the powerful Automator application. Open Automator, choose “Quick Action,” and drag the “Get Selected Finder Items” action. Add the “Convert Images” action and select “JPEG” as the output format. Save your workflow, and you can easily convert multiple HEIC images at once by selecting them in Finder and right-clicking, choosing “Services” and your Automator workflow.

3. Third-Party Apps: While not strictly necessary, dedicated conversion apps offer additional features and streamlined processes. Popular options include iMazing HEIC Converter and HEIC to JPG Converter. These apps often provide batch conversion, resizing, and other useful settings.

Quick Tips:

Enable “Automatic HEIC Conversion” in your iPhone settings to convert newly captured photos to JPG upon transfer to your Mac. Always back up your original HEIC files before conversion, especially if you’re working with important photos.

By following these simple steps, you can easily convert your HEIC images to JPG on your Mac, making them compatible with a wider range of applications and platforms. Choose the method that best suits your needs and enjoy the convenience of working with JPGs on your Apple device.
