How to Close Gauged Ears: 11 Steps

Step 1: Assess the size of your gauged ears

Determine the current size of your stretched earlobes by measuring the diameter of your ear jewelry. This will help you understand how much shrinkage you can expect and establish a starting point for the closure process.

Step 2: Remove your jewelry

Take off the plugs, tunnels, or any other jewelry you are wearing in your gauged ears. This will allow your earlobes to relax and begin the natural healing process.

Step 3: Keep your ears clean

Even though the stretching process might be over, it is crucial to keep your earlobes clean to prevent infection. Use a mild saline solution or an alcohol-free ear cleaning solution to clear away any buildup around the holes.

Step 4: Apply daily massages with oil

Massaging your earlobes daily using natural oils like jojoba oil or vitamin E oil will help increase circulation, reduce scar tissue, and promote healing. Gently massage your ears for about five minutes a day.

Step 5: Gradually downsize your jewelry

As you begin to notice your earlobes shrinking, replace your current jewelry with a smaller size. This gradual change will help avoid further stretching or tearing of the skin.

Step 6: Allow time for healing

Be patient and provide ample time for your earlobes to heal. Depending on the size of your gauge and individual healing factors, this process may take a few weeks to several months.

Step 7: Consult with a professional piercer

If you are unsure about the progress or concerned about any complications, seek advice from an experienced professional piercer. They can provide guidance and share tips on how to promote faster healing.

Step 8: Evaluate whether surgical intervention is necessary

For larger gauges that do not close naturally or leave significant scarring, surgical intervention may be required. Consult a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon for further advice.

Step 9: Choose the right treatment option

If surgery becomes necessary, discuss with your doctor the appropriate treatment method. There are several options available, such as earlobe reconstruction surgery, tissue excision and suturing, or partial closures.

Step 10: Schedule the procedure

Once you have chosen the right treatment option, book an appointment with your chosen medical professional for the procedure. During this time, keep following prior steps for optimal healing leading up to the surgery.

Step 11: Aftercare post-surgery

Follow all post-operative instructions provided by your doctor to ensure a smooth recovery process. Attend any follow-up appointments and continue to keep your ears clean to minimize the risk of complications or infection.

In Summary:

Closing gauged ears is a process that requires patience and care. By following these 11 steps and seeking professional advice when needed, you can successfully close your stretched earlobes and maintain healthy skin throughout the journey.
