Introduction:

Plastic water tanks are indispensable tools in conserving water resources and ensuring households, industries, and farms have a steady supply of clean water. However, maintaining the cleanliness of your plastic water tank is crucial for preserving the purity and safety of your water supply. In this article, we will outline the steps on how to clean a plastic water tank effectively.

Materials You Will Need:

1. A long hose

2. High-pressure cleaner or garden hose with a high-pressure nozzle

3. Protective gloves

4. Mask

5. Scrub brush with long handle

6. Dish soap or mild detergent

7. Disinfectant (non-abrasive liquid chlorine bleach)

8. Bucket

Steps to Clean Your Plastic Water Tank:

1. Empty the tank:

Before starting the cleaning process, ensure that all the water inside the tank is drained out thoroughly. You can do this by attaching a long hose to the outlet valve and diverting it to a drain or any other suitable discharge point.

2. Open the manhole cover:

To gain access to your tank’s interior, open the manhole cover on the top of the tank carefully.

3. Inspect your tank:

Before starting to clean, inspect your tank for any visible signs of damage, such as cracks, warping or discoloration that may indicate issues that should be addressed before cleaning.

4. Prepare your cleaning solution:

Fill a bucket with mild soapy water using dish soap or mild detergent for cleaning purposes. Make sure it is mixed well.

5. Use a high-pressure cleaner or hose for rinsing:

Using a high-pressure cleaner or garden hose with a high-pressure nozzle, spray down the interior surfaces of your tank thoroughly.

6. Scrub the interior surfaces:

Wearing gloves and a mask for protection against germs and chemicals, use your long-handled scrub brush to scrub all areas of your tank’s interior, paying special attention to corners and hard-to-reach areas.

7. Rinse the tank:

Using the high-pressure cleaner or hose, thoroughly rinse out the entire tank, making sure that all soap and debris are removed.

8. Disinfect your tank:

Prepare a disinfectant solution by mixing 50 parts water to 1 part liquid chlorine bleach in a bucket. Apply this solution to the interior surfaces of your tank using your long-handled scrub brush or by pouring it into the tank and swishing it around.

9. Allow your tank to dry:

Let your plastic water tank air-dry by leaving the manhole cover open for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.

10. Close the manhole cover and refill your tank:

Once your plastic water tank is clean and dry, close the manhole cover and refill it with fresh water.

Conclusion:

Cleaning a plastic water tank is essential in ensuring that you have access to safe and clean water from it. By following these steps, you can effectively sanitize and maintain the cleanliness of your plastic water tank to protect the health and well-being of yourself and your family. Regular cleaning will also help extend the lifespan of your plastic water tank for years to come.
