Indian, and Thai. It has a distinct flavor that adds freshness to dishes and can elevate the taste of any recipe. Chopping cilantro may seem intimidating at first, but with these ten simple steps, you’ll become an expert in no time.

1. Gather your materials: You will need a cutting board, a sharp knife, and your cilantro.

2. Wash the cilantro: Rinse the cilantro thoroughly under cool running water. This removes any dirt or debris that might be on the leaves.

3. Dry the cilantro: Pat the cilantro dry using clean paper towels or a kitchen towel. This ensures that your knife doesn’t slip while you’re chopping and creates cleaner cuts.

4. Remove the leaves: Hold the bunch of cilantro by the stems with one hand while you use your other hand to gently pluck off the leaves. Discard any wilted or discolored leaves as you go.

5. Bundle the leaves: Gather all of the plucked cilantro leaves into a tight bundle on your cutting board. This makes it easier to chop them efficiently.

6. Choose your knife: Select a sharp knife that feels comfortable in your hand. A chef’s knife works well for this task.

7. First cut: Place one hand on top of the cilantro bundle and hold your knife with the other hand. Start by making a horizontal cut through the bundle, slicing off about half an inch from one end.

8. Rock chop method: Place one hand on top of the blade near its tip while gripping the handle with your other hand. Use a rocking motion as you chop through the remaining cilantro bundle in small increments, moving toward yourself.

9. Finely chop (optional): If you need a finer chop for your recipe, simply repeat the rocking chop method over the cilantro until it reaches the desired size.

10. Clean up: Once you’re finished chopping, use your knife to scrape the cilantro into a bowl or directly into your recipe. Wipe your cutting board and knife clean with a damp cloth, and wash your hands.

Now that you’ve learned these ten simple steps on how to chop cilantro, you’re ready to add this fragrant herb to any dish that calls for it. Enjoy the added burst of flavor in your cooking!
