As a Chromebook user, it may become necessary to check the hardware and system specifications of your device. This information is essential for various reasons, such as troubleshooting issues, determining compatibility with software, or even upgrading your device. In this article, we’ll explain how to check your Chromebook’s hardware and system specs.

Checking Chromebook Hardware

To check your Chromebook’s hardware specs, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on the status area in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook’s desktop.

Step 2: Click on the gear icon to access the settings menu.

Step 3: Click on the “About Chrome OS” option at the top of the settings menu.

Step 4: In the “About Chrome OS” window that pops up, scroll down to the “Device specifications” section.

Step 5: Here, you’ll see information such as the model number, processor type, RAM, and storage capacity of your Chromebook.

That’s it! You can use this information for troubleshooting or upgrading your Chromebook’s hardware.

Checking Chromebook System Specs

Checking your Chromebook’s system specs is a bit more involved, but still straightforward. You’ll need to access the Chromebook Recovery Utility to do so. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open the Chrome browser on your Chromebook.

Step 2: Search for “Chromebook Recovery Utility” in the Chrome Web Store and install the app.

Step 3: Open the Chromebook Recovery Utility from your apps list.

Step 4: Insert a USB flash drive into your Chromebook.

Step 5: In the Chromebook Recovery Utility, click on the gear icon and then select “Use local image.”

Step 6: Select the “Chrome OS” file in the file browser that pops up.

Step 7: Select your USB flash drive as the destination for the recovery image.

Step 8: Click “Continue,” and the recovery image will be created on your USB flash drive.

Step 9: Insert the USB flash drive into any computer and boot from the USB drive.

Step 10: Select “Start” when prompted.

Step 11: Select “Chrome OS” when prompted to choose an operating system.

Step 12: Press “Ctrl + Alt + T” to bring up the terminal.

Step 13: In the terminal, type “shell” and press “Enter.”

Step 14: Type “sudo edit /etc/lsb-release” and press “Enter.”

Step 15: Enter your password when prompted.

Step 16: Press “Ctrl + X” to save and exit.

Step 17: Type “cat /etc/lsb-release” and press “Enter.”

Step 18: You’ll see a list of system specifications, including the Chrome OS version, platform version, and firmware version.

Conclusion

Checking your Chromebook’s hardware and system specs is essential for troubleshooting issues, determining compatibility with software, or upgrading your device. By following the steps above, you can easily access this information to ensure that your device is running optimally.
