Kali Linux is a popular and powerful operating system used by cybersecurity professionals to test and evaluate network security. The root password is an essential component of the operating system, and it should be changed on a regular basis to ensure that the system remains secure.

Here’s how to change the root password in Kali Linux:

Step 1: Open a Terminal Window

To change the root password, you will need to open a terminal window. You can do this in Kali Linux by clicking on the Applications menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and selecting the Terminal option.

Step 2: Log in as Root

Next, you need to log in as the root user. To do this, you can simply type “su” (without quotes) into the terminal window and press Enter. You will be prompted to enter the current root password.

Step 3: Type Current Root Password

Type the current root password into the terminal window and press Enter. If you have entered the correct password, you will now be logged in as the root user.

Step 4: Change the Root Password

Now, type the following command into the terminal window:
passwd

Press Enter, and you will be prompted to enter a new root password. Type your new password and press Enter. You will be prompted to re-enter the new password.

Step 5: Confirm the New Password

Re-enter the new root password in the terminal window and press Enter. If the two entries match, you will see a message saying “password was updated successfully”.

That’s it! You have successfully changed the root password in Kali Linux.

It’s important to utilize strong password best practices when creating and managing passwords. Ensure the password is complex enough to not be guessed and contains a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. It is also important to periodically change passwords to better secure the Kali Linux system.

In conclusion, changing the root password in Kali Linux is a quick and easy process. By changing the password regularly, you can help to ensure the security of your system and sensitive information.
