How to calculate payroll tax

Additionally, refer to the employee’s Form W-4 and calculate any other deductions like health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, or garnishments.
Step 8: Calculate each employee’s net pay
Next, subtract all of these withholdings (FICA taxes, federal income tax, state and local taxes if applicable, additional deductions) from the employee’s gross income to determine their net pay. This is the amount that will be paid directly to the employee on payday.
