Understanding the volume of a cylinder comes in handy in a wide range of applications, from HVAC setup to engine displacement. In this article, we’ll take you through the simple steps on how to calculate cubic inches of a cylinder.

1. Understand the basic formula

The volume V of a cylinder is calculated using the following standard formula:

V = π * r² * h

where;

V = volume

π = pi (approximately 3.14159)

r = radius of the base of the cylinder

h = height of the cylinder

2. Measure the cylinder’s dimensions

To determine the dimensions of your cylinder, measure both its radius and height using a ruler or measuring tape. It’s important to ensure that both measurements are in inches.

3. Square the radius

Next, take your measurement for the radius and multiply it by itself. This will provide you with the square value needed for our initial formula:

radius² = r * r

4. Multiply squared radius by pi

Now that you have squared your radius measurement, multiply this value by pi (keep at least four decimal places for more accurate results)

area_of_base = π * r²

(Consider substituting π with 3.14159)

5. Multiply by height

Now that you have calculated the area of the base, simply multiply this result by the height value you previously measured:

V = (π * r²) * h

6. Get your answer in cubic inches

Finally, after following all these steps, you’ll have your answer in cubic inches. This is the total volume contained inside your cylindrical shape.

There you have it! Now you know how to calculate cubic inches within any closed cylindrical container confidently and accurately. The process might seem daunting at first, but as long as you follow these steps carefully and pay attention to your measurements, you’ll quickly become a master at finding the volume of cylinders.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
