Cabbage is a versatile vegetable that can be prepared in various ways. Boiling cabbage is a popular cooking method, especially for recipes like soups, stews, or as a simple side dish. Here are 12 steps to help you boil cabbage perfectly:

1. Choose a fresh cabbage: Select a firm cabbage with tightly packed leaves and no signs of wilting or blemishes.

2. Remove outer leaves: Take off any loose outer leaves that may be discolored or damaged.

3. Rinse the cabbage: Clean the cabbage under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.

4. Cut the cabbage: Place the cabbage on a cutting board and carefully cut it into quarters using a sharp knife. Remove the core from each quarter by cutting it out at an angle.

5. Slice or chop the cabbage: Depending on your recipe or preference, slice or chop the cabbage pieces into smaller portions.

6. Fill a large pot with water: Add enough water to cover the amount of cabbage you are boiling, keeping in mind that it will reduce in size as it cooks.

7. Bring water to a boil: Place the pot over medium-high heat until the water comes to a rolling boil.

8. Add salt: Add approximately one teaspoon of salt per quart of water, allowing it to dissolve.

9. Add your cabbage: Carefully add your sliced or chopped cabbage into the boiling water, stirring gently to ensure all pieces are submerged.

10. Adjust heat and cook: Reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer and cook the cabbage for about 10-15 minutes, depending on how tender you want it. Test with a fork for your desired tenderness.

11. Drain and season: Remove cooked cabbage from heat and carefully drain it in a colander, allowing any excess water to escape before transferring it to a serving dish.

12. Serve: Enjoy your boiled cabbage as a simple side dish or incorporate it into your favorite recipe. Feel free to add butter, black pepper, or any other seasonings you prefer.

Boiling cabbage is a straightforward process that yields delicious results. By following these 12 steps, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the art of boiling cabbage in no time!
