How to Bleach a Weave: 15 Steps

Introduction:

Bleaching a weave can be the perfect way to achieve the desired color for your hairstyle. It might seem daunting, but with the right preparation, tools, and techniques, you can create a stunning look. Follow these 15 steps to ensure you bleach your weave safely and effectively.

1. Gather your supplies: Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and products. You’ll need bleach powder, developer (volume 20 or 30), gloves, a mixing bowl, an applicator brush, a shower cap or plastic wrap, and conditioner.

2. Choose the right bleach powder and developer: Selecting high-quality products for this process is essential. Research well-established brands and opt for a blue or violet-based bleach powder to help counteract unwanted red and yellow tones.

3. Comb through your weave: Make sure there are no tangles in your weave before starting the bleaching process. Gently comb from the ends to the roots using a wide-toothed comb.

4. Lay out your workspace: Cover your working surface with old newspapers or plastic to protect it from any bleach spills. Have all your tools ready and within reach.

5. Mix the bleach powder and developer: In a well-ventilated area, combine the recommended amount of bleach powder with developer according to package instructions. The consistency should be relatively thick but still spreadable – similar to frosting.

6. Section the weave: Divide your weave into four equal quadrants for easy application of the bleach mixture.

7. Apply petroleum jelly on track areas: To protect the base of your weave from getting damaged by bleach, gently apply petroleum jelly along the track area where your natural hair is attached.

8. Wear gloves: Put on gloves before handling any chemicals to protect your skin from irritation.

9. Start applying bleach mixture: Using an applicator brush, begin applying the bleach mixture to the sections of your weave that need lightening. Apply the bleach from the mid-shaft to the ends, leaving about an inch from the roots unbleached to minimize damage.

10. Pay attention to timing: The amount of time your weave should be left with bleach on will depend on your particular hair texture and desired results. Always read the product instructions carefully and keep an eye on the clock.

11. Monitor the progress: Keep checking your weave every 5-10 minutes to see how much it has lightened. When it reaches your desired shade, you’ll need to rinse it off.

12. Rinse off bleach: Thoroughly rinse your weave under cool running water until all bleach has been removed.

13. Apply a deep conditioner: After rinsing out all bleach, apply a generous amount of deep conditioner to your weave. This will help restore its moisture and minimize any potential damage from the bleaching process.

14. Rinse off conditioner and let dry: Allow the conditioner to sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with cool water. Gently pat your weave with a towel or old t-shirt and leave it to air-dry.

15. Style as desired: Once your weave is completely dry, style it according to your preference and enjoy your new, bleached look!

Conclusion:

Bleaching a weave may seem complicated, but by following these 15 steps, you can achieve a beautifully lightened hairstyle without damaging your hair too severely. Ensure you have all the necessary tools, work in a well-ventilated area, and consistently monitor the progress during the bleaching process for optimal results.
