How to Apply Gel Eyeliner

Introduction:

Gel eyeliner is favored by many makeup enthusiasts for its long-lasting wear, ease of application, and versatility. Perfecting the art of applying gel eyeliner can take your makeup game to the next level, adding depth and dimension to your eyes. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process step-by-step.

Materials You’ll Need:

1. Gel eyeliner

2. Angled eyeliner brush or fine-tipped eyeliner brush

3. Makeup remover and cotton swabs or Q-tips (for cleanup)

4. Primer (optional)

5. Concealer (optional)

Step 1: Prep Your Eye Area

Ensure your eye area is clean and free from any traces of makeup or oil. If desired, apply primer to the lids to help the gel eyeliner stay in place longer. You can also use a small amount of concealer on your upper lid to create an even base for your eyeliner.

Step 2: Dip Your Brush into the Gel Eyeliner

Carefully dip your angled or fine-tipped brush into the gel eyeliner pot, making sure both sides are coated evenly. Wipe off any excess product against the rim of the pot to avoid having too much product on your brush, which can lead to messy application.

Step 3: Starting at The Inner Corner

Position yourself in front of a mirror with good lighting, and steady your hand by resting your pinky finger on your cheek or holding onto a steady surface. Begin at the inner corner of your eye, placing the brush along your lash line.

Step 4: Creating Small Strokes

Using small strokes, gently glide the brush across your upper lash line. Keep as close to the lashes as possible to create a seamless, tight-lined look. By working with short strokes instead of one long stroke, you have more control over the line’s thickness and placement.

Step 5: Create Your Desired Wing

To create a wing, start at the outer corner of your eye and draw a line angled upward towards the tip of your eyebrow. The angle of the wing is a personal preference, so experiment to find an angle that complements your unique eye shape. Then, connect this wing to the end of the line along your lash line, filling in any gaps to create a smooth, continuous line.

Step 6: Clean Up and Sharpen Lines

If needed, dip a cotton swab or Q-tip in makeup remover and gently clean up any smudges or uneven lines. Be careful not to remove too much product, as this can ruin your hard work.

Step 7: Allow Time for Drying

Before opening your eye fully or applying any additional makeup, give the gel eyeliner a few seconds to dry. Once dry, you’re ready to complete your eye makeup look with mascara or eyeshadow as desired.

Conclusion:

Applying gel eyeliner takes practice but offers long-lasting wear and versatility that’s worth mastering. Follow these step-by-step instructions, and you’ll be creating stunning eye makeup looks in no time.
