Step 1: Open Photoshop

Launch Adobe Photoshop on your computer. If you don’t have it installed, you can download a free trial from the Adobe website.

Step 2: Create a New Document or Open an Existing Image

To create a new document, go to “File” > “New,” and choose your desired dimensions and resolution. To open an existing image, go to “File” > “Open” and select your image file.

Step 3: Select the Text Tool

In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click on the “Horizontal Type Tool” icon, which resembles a capital “T.” You can also press the “T” key on your keyboard as a shortcut.

Step 4: Choose Your Font Style

In the options bar at the top of the screen, select your desired font, style, and size. You can also adjust other attributes such as color or alignment.

Step 5: Add Text to Your Image

Click on your canvas where you want to add text. Click and drag to create a textbox if you want to set a specific area for your text. Begin typing your text – it will appear in the selected font style and size.

Step 6: Edit Text Properties

To modify text properties after typing, highlight the text and use the options bar at the top of the screen to change font style, size, color, and other attributes. Alternatively, you can also use the Character panel (Window > Character) for advanced editing options.

Step 7: Confirm Your Text

Once you’re satisfied with your text’s appearance and placement, click on the checkmark icon at the top right corner of your textbox or press Enter/Return on your keyboard. This step confirms your changes and exits text-editing mode.

Step 8: Move Text Around

If you need to reposition your text, select the “Move Tool” in the toolbar (keyboard shortcut “V”). Click and drag the text to move it to a new location on your canvas.

Step 9: Save Your Work

When you’ve finished adding text to your Photoshop project, save your work by going to “File” > “Save As” and selecting the appropriate file format. Typical formats include JPEG, PNG, or PSD if you want to keep your layers editable.

And there you have it – a simple yet comprehensive guide on how to add text in Photoshop in just nine steps. Now you can enhance your images and designs with custom typography and professional-looking text elements.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
