As you install new programs on your Windows 11 computer, some of them may get added to the startup list. This means the programs will automatically open and run whenever you boot your computer. While some programs may be necessary, others may slow down your computer’s startup performance. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to add or remove startup programs in Windows 11.

How to Add Startup Programs in Windows 11

1. Press the Windows key + R key to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type “shell:startup” in the box and press Enter. This will open the Startup folder where you can add programs that you want to launch during startup.

3. Copy the shortcut of the program that you want to add to the Startup folder. You can do this by right-clicking on the program’s shortcut icon, select “Copy” from the context menu, and then paste it into the Startup folder.

4. Alternatively, you can also add a program to the startup list by using the Task Manager.

5. To open the Task Manager, right-click on the taskbar, and select “Task Manager” from the context menu.

6. Go to the “Startup” tab in Task Manager.

7. Select the program that you want to add to the startup list and click on “Enable.”

8. Close the Task Manager.

9. The program will now automatically launch during startup.

How to Remove Startup Programs in Windows 11

1. Open the Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting “Task Manager” from the context menu.

2. Go to the “Startup” tab in the Task Manager.

3. Select the program that you want to remove from the Startup list and click on “Disable.”

4. Close the Task Manager.

5. The program will no longer launch during startup.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
