If you are using a Chromebook, you may have encountered situations where it becomes unresponsive. The device may not respond to any commands or may play up in other ways. In such cases, the simplest solution is to restart the Chromebook. In this article, we will explain how to restart a Chromebook.

Before we dive into how to restart a Chromebook, let us first understand what happens when you restart a Chromebook. Restarting a Chromebook is similar to retarting any other computer. The process involves shutting down the software and hardware that are running, then restarting them from scratch. However, there are a few differences between Chromebooks and traditional computers. With Chromebooks, the entire system is based on Google Chrome, and the entire device is optimised for browsing the web.

Now, let us take a look at how to restart a Chromebook.

Method 1: Using the Power Button

1. Locate the power button on your Chromebook. It is usually located on the right-hand side of the device.

2. Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the Chromebook screen turns off.

3. Release the power button, then press it again to turn the Chromebook back on.

Method 2: Using the Keyboard Shortcut

1. Hold down the “Refresh” button, located at the top row of your Chromebook’s keyboard.

2. Whilst holding the “Refresh” key, press the “Power” button.

3. Release both the “Power” and “Refresh” buttons.
In case the above methods do not work, you can perform a hard reset of the Chromebook. Here is how:

Method 3: Hard Reset

1. Turn off your Chromebook by holding down the power button for a few seconds.

2. Press and hold the “Refresh” button on your Chromebook’s keyboard.

3. While holding the “Refresh” key, press the power button, then release both buttons. The Chromebook will turn on automatically.

4. The device will now display a screen stating that Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Ignore this message.

5. Instead, press the “Ctrl” and “D” keys simultaneously. You will see a message appear that says “To turn OS verification off, press ENTER.”

6. Press “Enter” to turn off OS verification.

7. The Chromebook will restart automatically and return to the normal startup screen.
