Galaxy S20 Plus review: The best of both worlds

Spread the love

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S20 series, it became apparent that they were going for a best-of-both-worlds scenario – the flagship S20 Ultra for power users and the beautifully balanced S20 for casual fans. But nestled between these two extremes lies the Galaxy S20 Plus, inhabiting the sweet spot with its striking blend of incredible features and palatable price. Let’s dive into why the S20 Plus is the ideal choice for anyone wanting a taste of both worlds.

Design and Display:

The Galaxy S20 Plus sits comfortably between its siblings in terms of size, boasting a sleek 6.7-inch display that’s Quad-HD+ and Super AMOLED. Its tall and slender profile ensures an ergonomic grip, while the aluminum frame encased in Gorilla Glass provides both aesthetic satisfaction and durability. Samsung has also toned down their previous love affair with curved edges, making swiping gestures feel even smoother.

Camera:

Photography enthusiasts will be thrilled with the camera offerings on the S20 Plus. The rear quad-camera array includes a 12MP wide-angle lens, a 64MP telephoto lens capable of hybrid zoom at 3x and digital zoom up to 30x, a 12MP ultra-wide lens for immersive landscapes, and a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor for added depth perception in portrait shots. The front 10MP selfie camera is no slouch either, capturing sharp images with natural skin tones.

Performance:

Packing an Exynos 990 (or Snapdragon 865 for international versions) chipset under its hood, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, you can expect lightning-fast performance from your daily tasks to those resource-heavy games. The S20 Plus also supports up to 1TB expandable storage via microSD cards for those who crave extra space.

Battery Life:

Running on a 4,500mAh battery, the S20 Plus ensures you have enough juice to last throughout the day with moderate use. It also provides a 25W fast charger right out of the box and is compatible with 15W fast wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging for peripherals like earbuds.

Software:

One UI 2.0 runs smoothly atop Android 10, introducing various thoughtful features that complement the extensive feature set. With regular updates, the software experience remains fresh and enjoyable over time.

5G Capability:

The S20 Plus comes with 5G support right out of the box in both sub-6GHz and mmWave configurations (depending on carriers). This ensures you’re well-prepared for the eventual global shift to 5G networks.

Price:

While it’s still on the pricey side, starting at $1,199, the Galaxy S20 Plus does offer a more wallet-friendly option compared to its big brother, the S20 Ultra.

In conclusion, if you’re seeking a flagship smartphone that beautifully balances top-notch features without going overboard on extravagance or price, look no further than Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Plus. With its impressive camera system, future-proof design, and zippy performance, it genuinely offers the best of both worlds.
