Forget the Galaxy S22 and get an S21: Main differences between S21, Plus and Ultra

In the world of smartphones, newer does not always mean better. This is especially the case when it comes to Samsung’s Galaxy S series. With the Galaxy S22 making headlines, it’s important to remember that the previous models – the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra – still offer great value and features. Let’s explore the main differences between these three devices and see why you may want to choose an S21 model over the newer Galaxy S22.

Design and Build

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series shares a similar design language across all three models, with a few key differences. All three devices feature a premium glass and metal build with slim bezels and their unique Contour Cut Camera housing at the back. The Galaxy S21 has a 6.2-inch screen, while the S21 Plus stands at 6.7 inches and the Ultra boasts a massive 6.8 inches, with the latter two featuring Gorilla Glass Victus for added durability.

Display

All three models offer bright and vibrant Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with HDR10+ support and 120Hz high refresh rates. The smaller Galaxy S21 has a Full HD+ resolution (2400×1080 pixels), while both the S21 Plus and Ultra have a higher Quad HD+ resolution (3200×1440 pixels). Additionally, the Ultra exclusively offers an LTPO panel which dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to save battery life.

Performance

Galaxy S21 series devices are powered by either Samsung’s Exynos 2100 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset, depending on your region. Paired with ample RAM (8GB for the S21/S21 Plus, 12GB/16GB for the Ultra), these phones promise smooth multitasking and excellent gaming performance.

Cameras

All three phones boast an impressive array of camera hardware. The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus both have a 12MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and 64MP telephoto lens with 3x hybrid zoom. The Ultra steps things up with a 108MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and two telephoto lenses – a 10MP periscope lens with 10x optical zoom and a 10MP lens with 3x optical zoom. It also features a laser autofocus system to help with fast and accurate focusing.

Battery Life

The Galaxy S21 series is designed to last all day on a single charge, with battery capacities varying between models. The S21 features a 4,000 mAh battery, while the S21 Plus has a larger 4,800 mAh capacity, and the Ultra packs in an even bigger 5,000 mAh unit.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series has seen price drops since its launch in early 2021. As the most affordable option, the base Galaxy S21 starts at $799, while the S21 Plus begins at $999, and the high-end Ultra is priced from $1,199.

Conclusion

Each of these Galaxy S21 models offers its own unique set of features that cater to different user needs. If you’re considering forgetting about the Galaxy S22 for now and getting an S21 model instead, you’ll still be investing in an excellent device boasting top-tier performance, stunning displays, and impressive cameras. With these key differences in mind, you can easily choose which version of the Galaxy S21 lineup suits you best.
