“Failed to Obtain IP Address”: How to Fix an IP Configuration Failure on Android

One of the most frustrating issues an Android user can experience is a failed attempt to obtain an IP address. This message can appear when you try to connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data, and it means that your Android device is unable to get the necessary network address from the router or service provider. In this article, we will provide some tips on how to fix an IP configuration failure on Android.

  1. Restart your Android device

The first step you should take is to restart your Android device. This will refresh your device’s system and clear any cache and temporary files that may be interfering with your network settings configuration. Simply press and hold the power button, then tap the “Restart” option.

  1. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect

If you are trying to connect to a Wi-Fi network, try forgetting the network and reconnecting. To do this, go to “Settings,” then “Wi-Fi.” Find the network that is giving you the trouble, and then tap on it. Tap the “Forget” button and then try to reconnect again. This will prompt your device to search for the network and prompt you to enter the password.

  1. Turn airplane mode on and off

Airplane mode is a quick way to disable all network connections on your Android device. To turn it on, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap on the airplane icon. Wait for a few seconds, and then turn it off. This action can help fix any configuration issues that may be causing the “Failed to Obtain IP Address” message to appear.

  1. Reset your network settings

Resetting your network settings will reset all Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth connections on your device. To do this, go to “Settings,” then “System,” and then “Advanced.” Tap “Reset Options,” then “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth” and then “Reset Settings.” You will need to reconfigure any previously saved Wi-Fi passwords.

  1. Factory reset your Android device

If all else fails, a factory reset may be the only option to fix the IP configuration failure on your Android device. This will erase all your data and return the device to its original factory settings. To do this, go to “Settings,” then “System,” and then “Advanced.” Tap “Reset Options,” then “Erase All Data” and then “Reset Phone.”

In conclusion, experiencing a failure to obtain an IP address can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to fix this issue on your Android device. Restarting your device, forgetting and reconnecting to Wi-Fi, turning airplane mode on and off, resetting your network settings, and even factory resetting your device are all potential solutions. However, before going for a drastic solution such as factory reset, make sure to reach out to your ISP or network administrator for assistance.
