The Old School Renaissance (OSR) community continues to thrive, delivering a wealth of new tabletop RPG releases that cater to both nostalgic and modern players alike. As of March 16, 2026, several standout titles have emerged, showcasing creativity and innovation that pay homage to the roots of tabletop gaming. This roundup highlights some of the most noteworthy releases, as well as ongoing crowdfunding projects that are generating buzz within the community.

Utku’s Scalemail: A New Mass Combat System

One of the standout releases this month is Utku’s Scalemail, an early beta mass combat system designed specifically for the BX system. This innovative game is released under a Creative Commons license, allowing players and game masters to customize and adapt it as they see fit.

Scalemail aims to streamline large-scale battles in tabletop RPGs, making mass combat more accessible and easier to manage during gameplay. With a focus on simplicity and flexibility, this system promises to enhance the epic feel of battles without bogging down the game’s pace. As it is in beta, feedback from the community is encouraged to refine and improve the mechanics before its final release.

David Blandy’s The Knight Errant: Expanded Edition

Another exciting addition is The Knight Errant: Expanded Edition by David Blandy. This sci-fantasy adventure is tailored for the Mark of the Odd games, and it draws inspiration from legendary authors such as Clark Ashton Smith and Michael Moorcock. Players can expect a rich narrative filled with strange worlds, complex characters, and perilous quests.

The expanded edition not only provides new content but also enhances the original material with additional lore and gameplay mechanics. This release is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy, where the limits of imagination are pushed to their fullest extent.

Little Ghost Town: A Forest Point-Crawl Adventure

For fans of exploratory gameplay, gingerino42’s Little Ghost Town offers an intriguing forest point-crawl experience designed for the Cairn system. This adventure invites players to navigate a mysterious ghost town enveloped in the woods, where secrets and dangers lurk at every turn.

Little Ghost Town encourages exploration and discovery, with a focus on atmospheric storytelling and environmental challenges. The point-crawl format allows for non-linear gameplay, giving players the freedom to choose their path and uncover the haunting history of the town.

Holy Tinder: A Shadowdark Adventure

Additionally, the OSR community welcomes Holy Tinder, a 1st-level adventure for the Shadowdark RPG system. In this adventure, players face off against an evil priestess whose dark influence threatens the land. This scenario is designed to challenge new players while providing a gateway into the broader Shadowdark universe.

Holy Tinder includes various encounters, puzzles, and narrative hooks that encourage player engagement and creativity. The adventure is perfect for game masters looking to introduce their players to the thrilling and darkly whimsical world of Shadowdark.

Ongoing Kickstarters and Upcoming Adventures

The excitement doesn’t stop with these new releases. Several ongoing crowdfunding campaigns are attracting attention and support from the OSR community:

  • Twilight Riders: This Kickstarter project aims to expand on the popular Twilight Riders game, offering new content, characters, and storyline options that promise to enhance the overall gameplay experience.
  • Through Sunken Lands: Created by Flatland Games, this supplement adds depth and richness to existing game settings, allowing players to explore fascinating new landscapes and engage with fresh narratives.
  • Sunless Wood: A new solo gaming adventure that invites players to embark on a solitary journey through a mysterious forest. This adventure emphasizes exploration, survival, and decision-making, making it perfect for those who enjoy immersive solo play.

With these new releases and exciting projects on the horizon, the OSR community remains vibrant and inventive. Each title reflects a commitment to storytelling, creativity, and the enduring appeal of tabletop gaming. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the OSR scene, the current offerings provide a multitude of options to explore and enjoy. Keep an eye out for these titles and support the ongoing projects to ensure that the OSR landscape continues to grow and flourish.
