Easy Plantain Chips Recipe – How To Make Baked Plantain Chips

Delicious, healthy, and easy to make, baked plantain chips are a fantastic snack for any occasion. These chips are a great alternative to store-bought options that tend to be fried and full of unhealthy fats. Baked plantain chips are simple to create at home, with just a few ingredients and minimal preparation time.

Ingredients:

– 2 ripe plantains (yellow with some black spots)

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Salt, to taste

– Optional seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, or cayenne pepper

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Wash and peel the plantains. To do this, slice off both ends of the plantain with a sharp knife. Make a shallow cut through the skin along one of the ridges, ensuring you don’t cut into the flesh. Using your fingers or a spoon, lift the skin away from the flesh and remove it.

3. Slice the plantains as thinly and uniformly as possible (around 1/16-inch or 1.5 mm) using a sharp knife or mandoline slicer. Evenly sized slices will ensure they bake at the same rate.

4. In a large mixing bowl, toss the plantain slices with olive oil until they are evenly coated.

5. Spread the coated plantain slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not overlap them, as this will prevent them from crisping up properly.

6. Sprinkle salt and any additional seasonings you’d like over the plantain chips.

7. Bake for 12-15 minutes on one side until golden brown around the edges. Then remove from the oven, carefully flip each chip over using tongs or a fork, and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until fully crisp.

8. Remove the baked plantain chips from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, as they will continue to crisp as they cool.

9. Enjoy your homemade baked plantain chips as a simple snack on their own or with your favorite dips, such as salsa, guacamole, or hummus.

Baked plantain chips can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. To maintain their freshness, make sure all moisture is gone before storing them.

With this easy baked plantain chips recipe in your repertoire, you’ll have a healthier snack alternative for everyone to enjoy. Get creative with flavors by experimenting with various seasonings and spices, and remember to share your homemade treats with others!
