Introduction:

Falafels are delicious, filling, and full of nutrients. These Middle Eastern delights have gained popularity worldwide due to their versatility and great taste. Whether you are a seasoned cook or a beginner in the kitchen, making falafel is an easy task that everyone can accomplish. Below is an easy homemade falafel recipe that you can follow to make the best falafel for your family and friends.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups canned, cooked chickpeas, drained and rinsed

– 1 small onion, chopped

– 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

– 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 teaspoon ground cumin

– 1 teaspoon ground coriander

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon pepper

– 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

– 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Step 1: Blend Ingredients Together.

In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper and baking soda. Process until a coarse mixture forms.

Step 2: Add Flour.

Add flour to the falafel mixture one tablespoon at a time. The mixture should be slightly sticky yet easy to handle. If it’s too wet, add more flour until it reaches the desired consistency.

Step 3: Refrigerate.

Cover the falafel mixture and refrigerate it for about an hour. This will help the flavors meld together and make it easier to form balls or patties.

Step 4: Form Patties or Balls.

Remove the falafel mixture from the refrigerator and shape it into small balls or patties using wet hands. You can make them as big or as small as you like, just remember to adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Step 5: Fry the Falafel.

Heat about an inch of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. When the oil is hot enough that a small piece of falafel sizzles when lowered into it, carefully place several falafels into the pan. Fry them for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper towels.

Step 6: Serve.

Serve the hot homemade falafels in pita bread with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and tahini sauce or enjoy them as a topping for salads, on their own as appetizers or with any of your favorite dipping sauces.

Conclusion:

This easy homemade falafel recipe is sure to be a hit with anyone who tries them. Next time you’re craving a delicious vegetarian meal or want to add excitement to your dinner table, make your own falafels and enjoy the fresh, flavorful taste of this Middle Eastern classic. Happy cooking!
