Victoria, Australia, isn’t just about bustling Melbourne or the iconic Great Ocean Road. Scattered across this diverse state are small towns each brimming with their own unique charm and attractions. If you’re seeking an escape from city life and want to explore some of the best-hidden gems Victoria has to offer, here’s a guide to the 11 best small towns to visit.

1.Ballarat: Famous for its historical significance during the Gold Rush era, Ballarat is a treasure trove of colonial architecture, art galleries, and picturesque gardens. Don’t miss Sovereign Hill, an open-air museum that recreates life in the 1850s.

2.Daylesford: Known as the spa capital of Australia, Daylesford is rich in natural mineral springs and offers an array of wellness centers. Its bohemian vibe is complemented by art galleries, antique stores, and cozy cafes.

3.Beechworth: A well-preserved historic town, Beechworth is replete with stories from its gold mining days. Enjoy exploring its heritage buildings, museums, and local honey tastings.

4.Bright: This alpine town is a beacon for outdoor enthusiasts all year round; offering fantastic hiking trails in summer and serving as a gateway to ski resorts in winter.

5.Port Fairy: With its quaint fishermen’s cottages and beautiful beaches, Port Fairy feels like a step back in time. The historic Wharf area and Griffiths Island Lighthouse are must-visits.

6.Castlemaine: An artistic hub with a hip edge, Castlemaine boasts eclectic arts scenes mixed with historic sites from the gold-rush era such as The Mill Castlemaine—a lively space housing artists’ studios, food outlets, and vintage markets.

7.Maldon: Claimed as Australia’s most intact heritage streetscape from the Victorian era, Maldon will enthrall history buffs and those looking for a peaceful retreat amid historic buildings.

8.Healesville: Nestled in the Yarra Valley wine region, Healesville captivates visitors with its wildlife sanctuary famous for native Australian animals and proximity to exquisite wineries.

9.Queenscliff: Offering panoramic ocean views, maritime museums, and historical military forts, Queenscliff is a seaside town perfect for history lovers and beachgoers alike.

10.Trentham: This chic little town is known for its cool climate gardens, boutique shops, and the striking Trentham Falls—the highest single-drop waterfall in Victoria.

11.Walhalla: Once a thriving gold mining town now an atmospheric village lodged in a mountain gorge—Walhalla is ideal for exploring bygone days amidst stunning scenery.

Each of these towns offers its own slice of Victoria’s rich tapestry—complete with local histories, natural wonders, culinary delights, and so much more. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or an exciting adventure into Australia’s past, these small towns are sure to leave an unforgettable impression on your travel experience.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
