Can You Use the PS4 PlayStation Camera on a PS5?

If you’re a gamer who recently bought or upgraded to a PlayStation 5, you might be wondering if you can still use your old PS4 PlayStation Camera. The good news is that the answer is yes, you can use the PS4 camera on a PS5.

The PS4 PlayStation Camera has been around since the launch of the PS4 back in 2013. It is a small rectangular camera that is used to capture video and audio, as well as provide motion tracking for certain games. This camera was primarily used for games like Just Dance and The Playroom, as well as streaming on platforms like Twitch and YouTube.

The PS5 has a similar camera to the PS4, but it is not backwards compatible. This means that if you own a PS4 camera and want to use it on your PS5, you will need to purchase an adapter. Sony has created an adapter specifically for this purpose, which is available for free.

To get the adapter, you will need to go to the PlayStation support page and request one. Sony will verify that you own a PS4 camera and a PS5, and then they will send you the adapter for free. Once you receive the adapter, simply plug in your PS4 camera, and you’re good to go.

It is important to note that not all games on the PS5 will be compatible with the PS4 camera. Some new games, like Astro’s Playroom and Destruction AllStars, do not require the camera at all, while others, like Just Dance 2021, do support it. Sony is also releasing a new camera for the PS5 that has better tracking capabilities and is built specifically for the new console.

In conclusion, if you own a PS4 PlayStation Camera and want to use it on your PS5, it is possible with the purchase of an adapter. However, not all games will be compatible with the PS4 camera, and Sony is releasing a new camera specifically for the PS5. So, if you are a serious gamer who wants the best experience on the new console, it may be worth investing in the new camera.
