Best Typing Apps for Students in Middle and High School

Increasing our typing skill speed is needed to help us save time in accomplishing writing tasks. Here are the apps to get your kids started.

Keybr

What It Is: Older kids have a way to improve their speed and accuracy in typing. This free online typing tutorial helps students practice touch typing skills. For continuous improvement, Keybr uses statistics and algorithms to generate lessons based on each student’s skill level.

Keyblaze

What It Is: KeyBlaze teaches not only typing but also the use of keys for capitalization, punctuation, and numbers starting with basic lessons on the home keys and neighboring keys. then continues with capitalization, punctuation, and numbers. It also includes practice lessons using poetry, prose, problem keys, and advanced typing tests.

Learn Typing

What It Is: This site offers lessons for students of all ages and typing abilities. With typing tests, games, and video tutorials, learning to type will be easier and more engaging. Designed by a high school typing tutor, kids can improve speed and accuracy along with confidence through typing tests, games, and video tutorials.

What It Is: This app has lessons designed to boost typing speed and accuracy of students very quickly. Students are given guides such as the heat map to show what their fingers are hitting on the keyboard. Players also go to advanced levels that involve tough tapping patterns, symbols, numbers, and complicated sentences. tapping will increase typing skills of students in a fun and challenging way.

Type Racer

What It Is: Typer Racer challenges kids to increase their typing speed to 60 to 120 words per minute. The website also invites you and other kids around the globe to participate in the race. Collectively, typing prowess is within your reach when you keep practicing.

Typesy

What It Is: Typing is a skill to represent learning. It is only good that this skill is integrated into lessons to make the skill relevant. Typesy is a highly interactive application that teaches standards-based, common core content that drives the students to improve typing speed and accuracy through fun activities, games, and courses.

Typing.com

What It Is: Proficiency in typing is Typing.com’s mission. Typing.com is a comprehensive website where students begin by taking any number of tests to evaluate their typing skills. Then, they use an engaging curriculum, gamified learning, and even multilingual content and instruction while they move on to the next typing level.

TypingClub

What It Is: TypingClub is one of the most equipped typing programs of today. With over 600 lessons available, students can engage in interactive experiences reaching a goal of typing 75 words per minute. Moreover, teachers can make use of the lessons — from educational games, cross-cultural content, and videos, for learning at play.

Typing Master

What It Is: Typing Master is a complete touch-typing application that tracks typing skill levels and creates exercises that match the ability of the students. It features a real-time analysis widget. Typing Master has activities like typing games, that include other genres are action, puzzles, arcades, logic, memory, and writing.

TypingPal

What It Is: Typing Pal is a simple and efficient web-based program for beginners and intermediates who want to touch type at full speed! It provides sound prompts to signal whether the player is keying in the wrong picture. Typing Pal can also be played by both kids and adults to achieve proficiency in typing by touch and by the keyboard.

Dave Conservatoire 

What It Is: Dave Conservatoire is an entirely free online music school offering students world-class music education for everyone. It has over a hundred tutorial videos including the beginnings of music, elements of music, and other theories and practice tests. This can be used as a resource in school, or you can take your own classes directly on the website.

Drawspace 

What It Is: Drawing and sketching are good skills to upgrade. This is because students are often asked to express their ideas and feelings through drawing for their target audience. If you want to learn to draw or improve your technique, Drawspace has free and paid self-study as well as interactive, instructor-led lessons.

Justin Guitar 

What It Is: Learn how to play the guitar with The Justin Guitar site. This website boasts over 800 free guitar lessons covering transcribing, scales, arpeggios, ear training, chords, recording tech, and guitar gear. The site is also loaded with music tools like a metronome, chord library, interval ear player, etc. It also offers a variety of premium paid mobile apps and content such as books/ eBooks, DVDs, and other downloadable content. Lessons vary from beginners to Grade 9.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
