Best Spots for Kayaking in Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park, located in the state of Wyoming, is a veritable paradise for kayaking enthusiasts. With its stunning mountain vistas, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and the serene Snake River flowing gently amidst the backdrop of the Teton Range, it’s no wonder that paddlers from around the world flock to this destination. Here are some of the best spots for kayaking in Grand Teton National Park:

1. Jenny Lake

Jenny Lake is perhaps one of the most iconic places to kayak in Grand Teton National Park. It’s known for its clear blue waters and incredible views of Teewinot Mountain and the Grand Teton itself. Early morning paddles are magical here as the calm waters reflect the towering mountains, and wildlife sightings are common along the shoreline.

2. String Lake

If you’re looking for a more serene experience, String Lake is perfect for its calm and shallow waters, making it ideal for beginners or families. This narrow lake offers a gorgeous setting with easy access to both Leigh and Jenny Lakes if you’re up for a longer journey.

3. Leigh Lake

Leigh Lake is another excellent kayaking destination where you will find solitude and pristine nature. It’s more remote than Jenny Lake, which means fewer crowds and unspoiled natural beauty. You can explore hidden coves and witness the imposing Mount Moran reflecting off the lake’s surface.

4. Jackson Lake

For those seeking a big-lake paddle experience, Jackson Lake offers that with a wilderness advantage. It’s the largest lake in Grand Teton National Park, providing multiple bays and islands to explore. The views of the Tetons from the water are unmatched, but be aware that winds can pick up quickly here, challenging your paddling skills.

5. Snake River

A kayak trip on the Snake River allows you to paddle through some of Grand Teton National Park’s most captivating scenery without having to navigate any whitewater rapids. For a leisurely day on the river, put in at Deadman’s Bar and take out at Moose Landing. This stretch offers excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, fishing, and simply enjoying the tranquility of nature.

Whether you’re an experienced kayaker looking for new adventures or a novice wanting to dip your paddle into something more peaceful, Grand Teton National Park has something to offer everyone. Remember to check permit requirements before you head out and always follow safety guidelines when on the water. Happy paddling!
