Rhubarb is a versatile vegetable that, when cooked, takes on a delightful sweet, tangy flavor. One of the most popular dishes made from it is the Rhubarb Crisp, which is a delicious dessert that combines the natural tartness of rhubarb with the sweetness of a crisp topping. In this article, we will share the best Rhubarb Crisp recipe and guide you through the process of making this delectable treat.

Ingredients:

– 4 cups chopped fresh or frozen rhubarb (thawed if frozen)

– 1 cup granulated sugar

– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

– 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

– 1 cup brown sugar, packed

– 1/2 cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set it aside.

2. In a large bowl, combine the rhubarb, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg if using. Mix well until the rhubarb is evenly coated with the dry ingredients.

3. Transfer the rhubarb mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly to form an even layer.

4. In another bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, chilled butter pieces, and remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to mix everything together until it resembles coarse crumbs.

5. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the rhubarb layer in the baking dish. Gently press down on the topping to help it adhere to the rhubarb.

6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the rhubarb is tender when tested with a fork. If the topping browns too quickly, you can cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning.

7. Allow the Rhubarb Crisp to cool slightly before serving. It can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, and adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top makes it even more indulgent.

And that’s how you make the best Rhubarb Crisp! This simple yet tasty dessert is sure to become a favorite in your household, especially during rhubarb season. The combination of flavors and textures makes for a mouthwatering experience that will have everyone asking for seconds. So go ahead and give this Rhubarb Crisp recipe a try – you won’t be disappointed!
