On-board diagnostics 2 (OBD2) technology allows car owners to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in their vehicle using an OBD2 scanner. OBD2 scanners are tools that read engine codes and provide a diagnosis of issues with the engine, transmission or other parts of the vehicle. In today’s digital age, OBD2 apps have completely replaced the traditional OBD2 scanners. This is because OBD2 apps are more portable, user-friendly and convenient.

Here are some of the best OBD2 apps for mobile vehicle diagnostics:

1. Torque Lite

This app is ideal for those who need a basic OBD2 scanner. Torque Lite is the lightweight version of Torque Pro, which is one of the best OBD2 apps in the market. Torque Lite provides the user with real-time diagnostic data about their car’s performance, such as the speed, fuel economy, and engine coolant temperature. Torque Lite is compatible with Android devices and is free to download from the Google Play Store.

2. Carista

Carista is an app that is compatible with iOS and Android devices. It is one of the best OBD2 apps for car enthusiasts who want more control over their vehicle. Carista can read and diagnose error codes, provide maintenance recommendations, and allow users to customize various functions in their car like turning off seatbelt chimes, managing remote key fobs etc. The app is available for free, but the user would have to pay for additional services.

3. DashCommand

DashCommand is an OBD2 app that is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. This app provides users with a comprehensive dashboard that shows them everything they need to know about their vehicle’s engine, transmission, and other parts. DashCommand boasts a rich set of features such as performance measurements, fuel economy and more. It interfaces seamlessly with a proprietary Bluetooth device (sold separately) for quicker data transfer. The app is not free but is worth the $9.99 price tag for professionals.

4. OBD Fusion

OBD Fusion is another app that is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. It is one of the best OBD2 apps in the market and provides users with a wide range of features. It can read and diagnose error codes, track performance parameters, provide custom display gauges, measure fuel economy, etc. OBD Fusion works via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB port and supports a wide variety of OBD2 scanners. The app costs $9.99 for the standard version and has additional In-App purchases available.

5. ScanMaster Lite

ScanMaster Lite is an OBD2 app that is compatible with Android devices. It is perfect for those who want a basic OBD2 scanner that can read and diagnose error codes. The app displays real-time data as line graphs or digital gauges. ScanMaster Lite provides a customizable dashboard interface and is free to download.
