Buffalo, NY, the city of good neighbors, is not just known for its friendly atmosphere and delightful delicacies like the Buffalo wing; it’s also a burgeoning canvas for some of the most vibrant and awe-inspiring murals in the country. This article will guide you through the best murals by neighborhood, offering a complete listing for art enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.

Allentown

Starting in the creative heart of Buffalo, Allentown is home to several iconic murals. One standout is “Greetings from Buffalo,” found on Allen Street. This vintage postcard-style mural offers a cheerful welcome with its vivid colors and landmarks highlights.

Elmwood Village

Take a stroll down Elmwood Avenue, and you will be greeted by “The Spirit of Buffalo.” This massive work spans an entire building facade and depicts a majestic buffalo surrounded by abstract elements representing the city’s cultural heritage.

Downtown

Downtown Buffalo doesn’t shy away from making bold statements with its murals. “Freedom Wall” at Michigan Avenue and East Ferry Street features portraits of 28 civil rights leaders. Another marvel is “We Are Here” on Main Street, a mural dedicated to indigenous culture with its stunning visual storytelling.

West Side

Niagara Street on Buffalo’s West Side offers an international affair with “The West Side Bazaar Mural,” reflecting the diverse community that shops and runs businesses there. Nearby on Grant Street is the colorful “Welcome Wall,” designed to encapsulate the welcoming nature of this neighborhood.

Hertel Avenue North Buffalo

A hub for local artists, Hertel Avenue doesn’t disappoint. The whimsical “Magic Buffalo” infuses joy with its playful design, while “Audubon Mural” nearby brings attention to bird species at risk due to climate change in a beautifully poignant way.

Old First Ward & The Hydraulics

Rediscover history intertwined with art in the Old First Ward where “The Barrel Factory Mural” pays homage to the past industrial prowess of the area. In The Hydraulics neighborhood, Larkin Square beams with modern designs amidst historic architecture, highlighted by murals like “Larkin Menagerie.”

South Buffalo

“The Solar System” along South Park Avenue brings science and art together, mapping out an accurate depiction of our planets across several buildings—a must-see for both art aficionados and astronomy enthusiasts.

This curated list serves as your starting point for exploring Buffalo’s vibrant mural scene. Remember that street art is ever-changing—new pieces pop up as others fade away—so make sure to wander these neighborhoods frequently to discover the latest creations!
