Best Mould-Banishing Plants for Windowless Bathrooms

Mould can be a pesky intruder in any home, thriving in damp and poorly ventilated spaces such as windowless bathrooms. Typical mould-banishing methods may involve harsh chemicals, but for a greener and more aesthetically pleasing approach, incorporating plants into your bathroom decor could help. Not all plants are suitable for this environment, but there are a few that flourish in low light and high humidity, helping to absorb excess moisture and purify the air. Here are some of the best mould-banishing plants to consider for a windowless bathroom.

1.Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) – This lush fern is known for its ability to remove indoor air pollutants and thrive in low light, humid conditions. Their natural habitat is similar to that of a windowless bathroom, so they can be particularly effective at maintaining cleaner air.

2.Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) – The peace lily is not only beautiful with its white blooms, but it also excels at absorbing moisture. This plant has the added benefit of filtering out harmful toxins and improving air quality.

3.Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) – Spider plants are hardy and easy to care for. They prefer moist conditions making them an excellent option for bathrooms. What’s more, they’re effective at combating mould spores and other allergens.

4.English Ivy (Hedera helix) – Capable of growing in low light and reducing airborne mould particles, English ivy is a classic choice for a mould-fighting houseplant.

5.Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis miller) – Although it prefers brighter light to thrive, Aloe Vera can do well with artificial lighting too. It’s well-known for its ability to help clear formaldehyde—which is often found in cleaning products—out of the air.

6.Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) – Also known as ‘Mother-in-Law’s Tongue’, this plant is nearly indestructible and can grow in very low light while absorbing moisture from the air.

7.Bamboo Palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii) – Thriving in shade and part sun, the bamboo palm adds a tropical feel to your bathroom while also acting as a natural dehumidifier.

When choosing plants for your windowless bathroom, also consider artificial lighting like grow lights if necessary, since some plants may need more light than others to perform at their best. In addition to their aesthetic benefits and air-purifying abilities, these easy-to-maintain houseplants can contribute significantly towards reducing mold growth by absorbing excess moisture and improving overall air quality in your windowless bathroom oasis.
