Traveling solo is an adventure that can lead to self-discovery, new friends, and unforgettable memories. It’s also a journey that doesn’t have to break the bank. With the right destinations, solo travelers can explore the globe without financial strain. Here are the best and most affordable cities to visit in 2024 for solo adventurers.

1.Chiang Mai, Thailand – Chiang Mai offers a dreamy combination of low living costs and rich cultural experiences. From street food feasts costing a few dollars to affordable housing options like hostels and guesthouses, Chiang Mai is a haven for budget travelers. The city also offers plenty of free or inexpensive activities, such as visiting ancient temples, exploring local markets, and hiking in the nearby mountains.

2.Lisbon, Portugal – With its coastal charm, vibrant history, and welcoming locals, Lisbon provides solo travelers with an affordable European experience. Enjoy stunning views from the many miradouros (viewpoints), taste inexpensive local dishes like bacalhau (codfish), and traverse the city on the budget-friendly public transport system.

3.Valparaíso, Chile – This colorful port city is a paradise for creative souls and those looking for adventure on a budget. Street art tours are typically free (though tips are appreciated), and you’ll find plenty of affordable culinary delights in its many cafes and market stalls. Valparaíso also acts as a gateway to numerous beaches and vineyards in the region that won’t strain your wallet.

4.Cusco, Peru – As the jumping-off point for Machu Picchu explorers, Cusco itself is a wonder that’s easy on your finances. In addition to inexpensive accommodations and meals, museums and cultural sites often have modest fees perfect for solo visitors focused on economy and experience.

5.Hanoi, Vietnam – Hanoi is another excellent option for thrifty solo visitors who don’t want to compromise on experience or taste. From street food vendors serving pho bowls at just a couple of dollars to dorm beds in hostels under $10/night, your money goes far here. There’s also plenty to see just by walking around this bustling city’s Old Quarter or sitting by Hoan Kiem Lake.

Each of these cities offers unique experiences that won’t drain your travel funds, making them perfect destinations for solo travelers in 2024. With proper planning and an adventurous spirit, you can embark on a journey that’s as affordable as it is enriching.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
