Introduction

There’s nothing quite like the taste of warm apple cider on a chilly autumn day. Making your own apple cider at home is not only fun and cost-effective, but it also allows you to control the ingredients and flavors, ensuring a delicious and natural beverage. In this article, we’ll share our best apple cider recipe so you can enjoy this seasonal favorite all year round.

Ingredients

– 12 medium-sized apples (a mix of different types works best, such as Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Fuji)

– 1 gallon of pure water

– 1 cup granulated sugar (optional)

– 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 tablespoon ground allspice

– 1/2 tablespoon ground cloves

– Cheesecloth or a fine mesh sieve

Instructions

1. Rinse the apples thoroughly, then cut them into quarters. You don’t need to peel or core them, as these parts will add flavor and pectin to the cider.

2. Place the apple pieces in a large stockpot with enough water to cover them by about 2 inches.

3. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the apples simmer for about an hour. During this time, use a potato masher or wooden spoon to occasionally stir and mash the apples.

4. After an hour has passed, check to see if the apples have softened completely and turned into a mushy consistency.

5. Place a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve over another large pot or heat-safe container. Carefully pour the apple mixture into the cheesecloth or sieve to strain out the solids. Let it drain for about half an hour, occasionally stirring to help release more juice.

6. Discard or compost the solids left in the cheesecloth or sieve.

7. Return the strained liquid to the pot and stir in the sugar (if using), cinnamon, allspice, and cloves.

8. Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat and let it cook for an additional 30-45 minutes to fully infuse the flavors. Make sure to stir occasionally.

9. Once the cider has reached your desired flavor intensity, remove it from heat and let it cool before transferring it to a pitcher or glass bottles for storage.

10. You can serve your homemade apple cider warm, chilled, or over ice, depending on your preference.

Conclusion

With this easy and delicious homemade apple cider recipe, you can enjoy all the rich flavors of autumn in every sip. Feel free to customize by adding your preferred sweeteners or spices, and experiment with different types of apples for unique flavor combinations. Enjoy!
