Best And Worst Of The Batman ’89 Action Figure Line

Embarking on a journey back to the late ’80s, we revisit a time when Tim Burton’s “Batman” reigned supreme at the box office, captivating audiences and paving the way for countless reimaginings of the Dark Knight. Alongside the film’s phenomenal success was a line of action figures that became treasures for fans and collectors alike. Today, we scale the heights of Gotham’s finest collectibles to rank the best and worst of the Batman ’89 Action Figure Line.

At the pinnacle lies the incomparable “Bob the Goon” figure. Surprising as it may seem, this notorious henchman stands out not for his prominence in the movie but for his rarity and unique position as one of the few secondary character toys of his time. A surprising standout is also the “Joker with Squirt Flower” – an action figure that perfectly encapsulates Jack Nicholson’s whimsical yet eerie portrayal, with his flamboyant purple suit and mischievous flower accessory.

Next up is the caped crusader himself – “Batman with Grappling Hook.” This figure is quintessential; from its iconic molded rubber cape to its utility belt brimming with crime-fighting accessories, it encapsulates everything that fans adore about Batman.

However, not all was spectacular in this toy line-up. Regrettably, one must don rose-tinted glasses when appreciating some of these plastic heroes and villains. At the lower end of our ranking lies “Crime Fighter Batman.” Despite its attempt at offering multiple gadgets and a more versatile play experience, it lacks any significant character traits, feeling like a generic doll dressed in Batman’s garb rather than a tribute to Michael Keaton’s portrayal.

In last place and dubbed as potentially the worst offender is “The Joker with Curly Hair.” While it aimed to reflect Nicholson’s hairdo accurately, it resulted in an odd-looking figure that didn’t quite resonate with either fans or collectors. Its disproportionate features left it lurking in the shadows of its more esteemed counterparts.

In conclusion, while nostalgia might tint our glasses a shade darker, there’s no denying that some figures from Batman ’89 line stand taller upon Gotham’s skyline than others. From quirky henchmen to our stoic hero, these collectibles remind us why we fell in love with Burton’s Gothic cinematic spectacle and why Batman continues to capture our imagination decades later.
