Behold: The Best Wine Pairings for Every Type of Takeout

Pairing wine with takeout meals can elevate an ordinary dinner to a gastronomic event to remember. From the savory spices of Indian cuisine to the delicate flavors of sushi, every type of takeout has a perfect wine match that enhances both the food and the drink. Let’s delve into some of the best wine pairings for various types of takeout:

1. Pizza: An Italian staple that’s enjoyed worldwide, pizza begs for a wine that can handle its robust flavors and gooey cheese. A Chianti or Sangiovese, with their higher acidity and medium body, cut through the richness of the cheese and complement the tanginess of tomato sauce.

2. Chinese: Chinese cuisine is diverse, but for dishes like General Tso’s Chicken or Kung Pao Chicken with a spicy kick, consider Riesling. The sweetness will balance the heat, and its acidity will refresh your palate.

3. Sushi: Sushi’s delicate flavors are well-suited to a dry or slightly off-dry white wine like Pinot Gris or Champagne. These wines offer a clean taste that won’t overshadow the subtle taste of fish.

4. Indian: Indian food is known for its complex spice blends and heat levels. A Gewürztraminer or a Chenin Blanc can withstand these bold flavors while providing a sweet counterbalance to the heat.

5. Thai: With lemongrass, lime, and chilies prevalent in Thai dishes, you’ll want a wine that can meet these aromatic flavors head-on. A well-chilled Sauvignon Blanc with its herbal notes is an excellent companion.

6. Mexican: Mexican food spans from earthy dishes to fiery salsas. A Grenache with fruit forwardness and subtle spice can handle almost anything from this cuisine’s palette.

7. Barbecue (BBQ): Smoky BBQ should be met with something equally bold in flavor—Zinfandel fits this bill perfectly with its full body and strong fruit presence.

8. Burgers and Fries: When your takeout is a classic American burger, nothing beats a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon; its structure complements perfectly with beef while it’s tannins cut through fattiness.

Properly pairing wine with your favorite takeout not only makes your meal more enjoyable but also allows you to explore various flavor profiles and expand your culinary horizons right from home!
