Apps and Tools That Will Help You Develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

A well thought out Individualized Education Plan (IEP) represents some of the best personalized planning in education. The IEP lays out a year’s worth of instruction and identifies appropriate goals and the educational milestones that will form the path to meeting them for special education students.

IEPs are often intricate documents that are twenty and thirty pages long, and developing IEPs can be an arduous process.

Thankfully, there’s not just one app for that, but several.

Edtech vendors have worked alongside teachers to provide the digital tools to streamline the IEP development process and build a more coherent plan of instruction for the child.

Try these tools and apps for developing the best IEPs:

  1. IEP Goals & Objectives with Common Core State Standards

The National Association of Special Education Teachers developed this app to streamline the IEP writing process. While the original app allowed for goal and objective setting, curriculum planning, and searching for enrichment activities, the new version is more robust. It offers Common Core State Standards alignment, mastery level identification for behavioral objectives, and greater flexibility in making educational decisions for students with IEPs. The app is available on iTunes for $9.99.

  1. IEP Goals Activity Tracker Mobile App

Say goodbye to the reams of paperwork that student IEPs can generate. This app lets you track student progress on the go. As you identify student performance, the IEP Goals Activity Tracker Mobile App collects data for later mining and analysis. Try the app for free before committing to a purchase.

  1. Birdhouse

Managing multiple IEPs can be overwhelming and time-consuming. That’s why there’s Birdhouse. Birdhouse helps teachers create personalized learning plans, collect and analyze data, and schedule IEP meetings,. In addition, teachers can communicate with parents and providers through the app, for a seamless 360-approach to serving the needs of the child in special education.

  1. Fastbridge

In the past, the quality of screening of special education students was inconsistent, varying from district to district and even school to school. This online screening tool in math and reading determines ability at the onset of developing an IEP to determine the correct level of objectives and goals. As the name implies, the app provides a fast screening method so that any referral to special education is not delayed.

IEP planning and paperwork no longer have to be a burden on teachers like it once was. With the right apps and tools, you develop and monitor the progress of your students.
